Nerlens Noel signs 10-day contract with Brooklyn Nets
Free agent center to join Nets on short-term deal
Noel waived by Detroit Pistons after agreeing to buyout
Free agent center Nerlens Noel has signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets, his agent George Langberg of GSL Sports Group told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday.
Noel was waived by the Detroit Pistons on Feb. 28 after agreeing to a buyout. He had been traded to the Pistons from the New York Knicks with Alec Burks on July 11, 2022.
The 6-foot-11, 220-pound Noel is a seven-year NBA veteran who has averaged 8.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.4 assists per game in his career. He has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons.
Noel is expected to provide the Nets with some much-needed depth in the frontcourt. The Nets have been without starting center Nic Claxton since he suffered a hamstring injury on Feb. 23. Claxton is expected to miss at least two more weeks.
The Nets are currently 34-24 and in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. They are one game behind the fourth-place Cleveland Cavaliers and two games ahead of the sixth-place Miami Heat.
