Was Promoted to Head Coach in November 2022
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State has decided to move on from head coach Zach Arnett before the conclusion of his first full season in charge.
Arnett, who was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach in November 2022, went 3-9 in his first season at the helm, including a 1-7 record in SEC play. The Bulldogs lost their final five games of the season, including a 24-22 setback to rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl.
Mississippi State athletic director John Cohen released a statement announcing Arnett's firing.
"After careful consideration, we have decided to make a change in the leadership of our football program," Cohen said. "We appreciate the hard work and dedication that Coach Arnett has put in during his time at Mississippi State. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
