Jim Schlossnagle Named Texas A&M Baseball Coach

Texas Christian University alum and former coach Jim Schlossnagle has been named the new head baseball coach at Texas A&M University.

Schlossnagle, a two-time National Coach of the Year, spent 18 seasons at TCU, leading the Horned Frogs to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including a berth in the College World Series in 2010.

He replaces Rob Childress, who was fired after 16 seasons at A&M. Schlossnagle, who was born in Smithsburg, Maryland, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 12th round of the 1992 MLB Draft but opted to play for the University of Virginia rather than join the Twins organization.

Schlossnagle was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection as a senior at Virginia in 1994 and was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year. He was also a member of the United States national baseball team that won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

After graduating from Virginia, Schlossnagle began his coaching career as an assistant at UNC Wilmington. He then spent two seasons as the pitching coach at Georgia Tech before being named the head coach at TCU in 2003.

Schlossnagle has a career record of 674-355-4. He is the winningest coach in TCU baseball history and has led the Horned Frogs to four conference championships. He was named the National Coach of the Year by Baseball America in 2010 and 2016.

Schlossnagle is expected to be formally introduced as the new head coach at A&M on Friday.
